COA Import

SOLVED

I am importing a Chart of Accounts.  Everything seem to import except for Dimension.  I exported the Char of Accounts that has dimensions and they are there.  I deleted the dimension type on one of the accounts and imported the file that I just exported and no dimension type and no errors?

Any ideas??

If you exported and can see it then your template as the field in it.

What version you using, I have not had any issues.  Could you be accidentally picking the wrong file up, Ive done this before.

    Check your templates.

    Sorry cant be more help

    Stacey,

Yes, it's there on the COA export.  An near as I can tell, everything by Dimensions works in COA.  I have used both ASCII and XML imports/ exports.

BTW I spent about one full day finding out that when using XML you must use line feed (LF) NOT (CRLF) as line terminators and that XML fields MUST be in the same order as in the template.  This is the case at least for BPS (Supplier) imports.  XML should be white space and field order agnostic; other than parent/child order.

I am on 7.1 patch level 5; one patch behind.

Patch 7 has been released, but I also had trouble yesterday importing into COA, although I am getting weird errors.  Our consultant here who has lots more years experience tells me CSV is the best way to go.

    Hi

Just a thought - if you are referring to importing dimensions into Accounts [GESGAC]

I seem to remember reading on one of the old forum responses that import of dimensions into Accounts [GESGAC] was omitted by design at a certain point. I have had to generate dimension types from [GESCOA] ie. the Organizational structure Chart of accounts Default Dimension types tab using account roots for v6.5. I am not sure if this has changed on v7.

    Michelle,

I was able to import Default Dimensions successfully, but the dimensions in the COA didn't change.  I guess I am not sure how Default Dimensions affect X3.

I think I figured it out with the help of a Sage Support engineer.  Michelle is correct, the Dimension type cannot be imported with the Account (template GAC).  Instead they need to be imported as the Default Dimension associated with a Chart of Account (ENG for me) the import template is GCD.  You can define the account (or ranges) and the Dimension Type.  Once they are imported, go to the Chart of Accounts -> Default Dimensions and click of Run.  That works.

The issue is that your import template must include the DACDIENBR field (not in the standard GAC template) as this field holds the number of dimensions, so if it is not in the template, then it is set as zero and any dimensions included on the template are ignored.
