Start New Period to January 2024: "The Number of Weeks left in the Tax Year is not sufficient" warning message

The warning message "The Number of Weeks left in the Tax Year is not sufficient" might appear for some users  when they perform a Start of a New Pay Period  from December to January in a weekly or bi-weekly company.

During the  process, the system checks the processing period date and tests to see the numbers of pay periods left in the tax year are correct (based on processing date), and aligned with the company Tax Year-end date.

The system allows the following when rolling from December to January, where you will only have 2 calendar months left in the tax year:

  • Weekly company – maximum of 10 weeks until TYE (5 weeks per calendar month)
  • Bi-weekly company – maximum of 6 bi-weeks (3 bi-weeks per calendar month)

When this warning appears after you have completed your next processing period and month-end dates, there are a few possible causes:

  • The company dates were setup incorrectly
  • Company dates were changed during the year incorrectly
  • The month-end selections did not take into account that 2 months will require 5 weeks or 3 bi-weeks, thus the number of weeks will exceed the allowed weeks per month
  • 53 or 27 pay periods were selected but not aligned with the tax year-end date
