Sage 50 Yearly Upgrades

SUGGESTED

Hello All,

Recently I took a job looking after the accounting for a small business that has been using Sage 50 to manage its books for quite a few years now.

When I started they had a computer that had the 2017 version of Sage 50 Premium installed and were using it to keep record entries well into the current year.

As I started to input new data, the program prompted me to install a software update. I accepted and when it finished the computer rebooted and I now had the 2019 version of Sage 50 installed along with the 2017 version.  Re-opening our data prompts it to convert all the existing data to the new version.

I'm just checking to see if this is normal and that if Sage Premium is supposed to upgrade to the new years version on its own. (they don't bother with the payroll modules)   .

If that's the case, I'm not sure why the computer did not have either the 2018 or 2019 installed prior to this.

Thanks.

    Hi:

From my experience the only reason it would have prompted you to update would be that the license or subscription was paid for. It does prompt you to install the next version if it is within your 1 year of registering the product. It also will prompt you to convert to the new version. Once it has converted your data to the newer version you cannot go back to the 2017 version unless you have a current backup of your 2017 version of data.

I hope this answers your questions!

    Hi ,

Also note that if the 2019 software installed, the newer software icon always gets launched unless you specifically go into your Start menu / Programs list to launch the older version icon.

    Hope this helps!

Ok, that may be what's going on.

I checked and the computer had been re-imaged back in the fall so it's entirely possible that they purchased and installed a new/old version of sage at that time.
