Sage 50 Connection Manager problem from Trial version

SUGGESTED

I downloaded and installed a couple of versions of the new software but decided to stay with the Simply version I have.

I uninstalled the trials but was left with a Sage 50 Connection Manager that seems to be residing on my system somewhere.  It shows in my Taskbar but there is no program in the remove programs area within the Control Panel

I use Windows XP by the way.

This fragmented leftover is having devastating effects on my system and the performance of my equipment.  I need to manually remove it but do not know where to find the instructions to do so.

I tried contacting Chat and got absolutely no where other than speaking with someone outside of Canada somewhere in this big wide world who was less than accommodating.

I have been told to go to a computer technician and pay to have it removed myself!  I mean really - like that is going to happen....

I have been using this software for over 20 years and now I try a FREE trial and end up with complications and problems PLUS I am told to pay to have this freeware removed ...

It is like a virus and I have no intention of paying to have it removed as I am sure there must be someone that can walk me through doing it or point me to a proper knowledge article that will walk me thru....  chat agent pointed me to a knowledge article on how to remove the software via the remove programs even after being told several times that there was NO SOFTWARE in the listing to remove....  unbelievable...  crappy customer service to say the least.

SO can someone please, please help out and give me instructions on how to remove this fragmented file system from my computer...

Thanks

    Hi,

To check it, look for Simply Accounting Connection Manager in the tray at the Right side bottom part near date.

Right click Connection Manager, it would show the status and start service (if it is stopped, otherwise it would say stop service).

Click Stop Service, then close the window.

    Thanks.

I do not simply wish to stop the appliction.

I wish to remove it from my system entirely.

I do not want it on my computer.

    Hello,

Sage50 - Simply Accounting is the main program which is installed and can be un-installed. Connection Manager is one of it's components, and it is not installed separately nor can be.

When it's showing in task manager that is coz it is running in the memory, which can be removed as stated earlier.

If Sage50 - Simply Accounting have been un-installed, then I'd remove from the memory, and re-start the computer. That should clear all.

    Thanks,

    Hello BIThelp.ca

I do not think this is a memory issue as I have cleared all memory numerous times, unless it is some special memory issue that I am unaware of.

You stated removing memory as stated earlier but I do not know what you are referring to.  Can you provide a link and I will try it.

The Connection Manager does show in the task bar but it is also showing as an active executable file and active process in the Windows Task Manager.

The Help section of the connection manager shows that it may have gotten left behind on the uninstall and the instructions are to reinsert the disk:

To install or remove features after you have installed Sage 50

If Sage 50 is running on your computer, close it.

Insert the Sage 50 disk into your computer.

    Select Install Sage 50.

Select Add/Remove Program Components and click Next.

Select the features that you want to install on your computer, or clear the selection box next to the features you want to remove.

(Optional) If the Change button becomes active when you select your feature, click on it to further customize the feature.

    Click Next.

(Optional) Rename or move any forms that you have customized to ensure that Sage 50 does not overwrite them with the default files.

    Click OK

Well this was a download of a Trial Version and I do not have a disk and the Trial is long over.

    Also there is  this information:

    Other Options

The Connection Manager is set up to handle most company requirements for connection requests. If, however, you want to change any of its settings, you can do so by editing the ConnectionManager.ini file located in:

    Windows XP. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Sage Software\Connection Manager

On my equipment this is not located here but I have found Connection Manager here

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Shared Documents\Sage Software\Connection Manager

This .ini file is as follows:

    [settings]

    Start Port=13540

    End Port=13579

    Connection Manager Port=13531

    Max Connections=50

    Connection Attempts=4

    Buffer Pool Size=56

It also states not to muck with the file if not 100% sure and to contact Customer Support and we already know that they are not the least bit helpful!

So Why does Simply not provide support for this type of error on their trial software?  Why should a prospective customer have to pay to have this removed from their system?  Would it not seem reasonable to have this simple removal handled by a tool supplied by the software company free of charge?

I do not want this process running and I do not want this software on my system so again I ask....  what is next how do I rid it from my equipment?????

Have you tried bringing up the Task Manager and searching for the file thru that in the Process Tab? Then opening the file location so that you can delete it? I do not know what will happen if you do that as I am not an expert by any means. Maybe someone will respond and let us know.

You said you have Simply Accounting and yet you also say you do not need the Connection Manager. I'm guessing your Simply version must be a few years old as the Connection Manager has been around for quite a while now and a necessary part of operating Simply/Sage accounting software.  I don't know how you uninstalled the trial version - was it thru Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel?

You said you do not want this software on your computer but it should no longer be there if you have uninstalled it. Usually when a program is removed from computer it does leave some files behind. When you get your computer serviced next time they should be able to clean up everything including getting rid of the .ini file related to Sage Connection Manager.

You said you talked to someone thru 'Chat'. Try calling Sage Canada toll free number and see if they can help you.

    For Windows 7

    1. Press (windows key) + R.

    2. Type “msconfig” and press Enter or click  OK.

    3. Navigate to Startup tab and there you have a list,

uncheck a selected startup item (Sage) and click Apply and OK.

Then uninstall Sage from your computer, no more errors.

Windows XP - Search for how to disable programs on startup windows XP.  Recommend upgrading your Windows.

    Hi fixit

You may want to reinstall Sage 50 again on your system, then go back to program and features and run the uninstaller.

If you really want to remove it manually, you can try to watch this video below for tips of how to remove software manually

For Sage 50, you can find connection manager under C:\Program files (x86)\winsim

The registry key of Sage 50 is 1585982E-766D-476A-BF0D-5FE4A1C1BE9F.  Remember to backup your registry before you remove the key

    Sage 50 Accounting 2015

    1. Go to Edit - Find - type {1585982E-766D-476A-BF0D-5FE4A1C1BE9F} and click "Find Next". All keys named {1585982E-766D-476A-BF0D-5FE4A1C1BE9F} in the registry should be deleted.
    2. If the key is in another key folder named E2895851D667A674FBD0F54E1A1CEBF9, in the left pane, delete the whole folder E2895851D667A674FBD0F54E1A1CEBF9 instead.
    3. Click on "F3" on your keyboard to continue searching for the next key that contains the value.

As per the video, you can also download CCleaner for free to clean registry. You can google it.

    Hope this helps.

I had the same problem. Even after having an IT friend uninstall Simply, which I had tried to use for a class, the connection manager hung around for years. But I FOUND IT! I had to uninstall the .NET frameworks (both versions) that I was forced to install before I could use the trial version, then I could install the latest update which will eventually let you take the whole (winsim) folder from programs and delete the bugger! It wouldn't let me delete until I had the latest .NET. Connection Manager no longer runs every time I log on to my computer.

Opening the file location will let you try to delete it, but if you don't have the latest .Net framework it won't let you. Update that first and then you can delete.

You could have disabled the service, then it would no longer use any RAM space or CPU time.

Not sure why the Connection Manager wouldn't uninstall at the time you uninstalled everything else, unless the .NET framework became broken sometime after install or uninstalled partway through the removal process, and the Connection Manager uninstaller couldn't run.

The Connection Manager runs as a Windows service, so it can be removed from startup by running 'Services.msc' and marking its startup as 'Manual' or 'Disabled'
