UNABLE TO OPEN SIMPLY ACCOUNTING

SOLVED

This is going to be hard to explain.  I have NEVER encountered the problem I have today.  I open Simply (2012) and everything appears normal.  I see the Main Window, but when I place my mouse on it and click the mouse, it will not engage.  I have shut down and rebooted several times, to no avail.  Never ever had this happen before.  HELP!

Check the windows event log for a hang or crash.

Open the sample file by double-clicking on it.  It's usually in a folder in the Shared / public folder area.

Double-check that the mouse is working

Hi Randy, not sure how to do that....how do I access the windows event log?

The details of where to access the Windows Event Log depend on the version of Windows that the program is running on.

Start with opening the sample file.   If that won't work, there's something wrong with the software.   If it does, likely there's something wrong with the latest company file and you need to restore a backup

The exact location of the Sample Files also depends on the version of Windows, in most versions you should be able to use Windows (press the Windows key) and type 'universl.sai'.  to find one of the sample files.

Probably the most likely is that the company file has been corrupted, whether by power failure or system fault.  It's not impossible that there are other problems, due to hardware failure or malware.

Troubleshooting a problem like you describe is a series of breaking it down into smaller go / no go checks:

Either there is something wrong with the software or operating system, or there isn't.

Test:  Look for a crash report in the Windows Event Log, try to open a file.

Either the software installation can't open a file, or it can.

Test:  Open the sample file   If it works, the problem is likely not in the software itself.

Either the company file is open-able, or it is not.

Test:   Given that the software works, and can open the sample file but not the company file, the problem is something in the company file.  You may have to restore from a backup.

Hi again Randy, thanks a million.  All is up and running again.  My computer technician just left and I couldn't explain to you what he did if I had to!  Appreciate your answer.

That's great, it's not a good time of year to have our computers go on vacation!
