P11D V28 will not submit the folder to HMRC.  Spoken to HMRC, no problems their end or with our connection / credentials and payroll submission went with first time. Error code on Sage P11D 1046 all settings reset, checked including reinstall - anyone else having this problem?

Already done so, three times to no avail in resolving this problem.  Running out of time on this can't see in renewing the software again with Sage Money with wings

    Hi Guy,

    Thanks for using Sage City.

The error 1046 is returned by HMRC servers when one or more of your credentials are rejected. When you receive this error it confirms your software is able to run through the submission process correctly and connect to HMRC, so I wouldn't suspect an issue with your software here. The credentials that HMRC's system validates for the 1046 error are:

    • Your HMRC portal username
    • Your HMRC portal password
    • Your company's Tax District Reference number

In case it has changed, log directly into your HMRC portal and check your Tax District Reference there, then check it's entered correctly in Sage 50 P11D.

Also, do you process more than one company in Sage 50 P11D? If so, do you have more than one HMRC portal login? In Sage 50 P11D only one HMRC username and password can be stored - if you submit companies with separate HMRC logins you'd need to enter the correct credentials during each submission.

There's one other item to check for this. Has an agent (for example an Accountant) submitted for your tax district reference number in previous years? If so, this can prevent you from submitting now. To revoke agent permission and allow you to submit your P11D data you'd need to follow the steps for this on Gov.UK >

    Hi Guy,

Hope you have had success with this by now,  The recommendation on a 1046  which is always credential errors reported back by HMRC is to login  to your HMRC account directly and check the case sensitivity on Username and password.

We do see a large number of 1046 failures at times but this is a valid return from HMRC as unable to login and case sensitivity or a cached incorrect password can often be the cause

No, HMRC state no problems as payroll has submitted okay and loggin on gov webpage is fine and they can see the login.

    Hi Guy,

If you've accounted for all of the areas identified by John, the next step would be for us to look at a copy of your data. I realise that you've spoken to Technical Support before, but if they can get a copy of your data they can test for the same error.
