In this revised fifth article of the series, I will describe how to create a Group in Sage CRM and add it as a segment to a Mailchimp Audience.
The place to start is within the Groups screen within the 'My CRM' menu.
I have created a Group in Sage CRM, and when it is sent to Mailchimp, it will add it as a tagged set of subscribers. This will be the segment used for the campaign.
I ensured the contacts had email addresses to access, open, and click into to see how Mailchimp and Sage CRM would report those interactions. Sage CRM has a feature to prevent email addresses from duplicating within the contact entities (Company, Person, and Lead). You can not use duplicate email addresses in Mailchimp as this is unique to the audience.
In integrated systems, users with the right to use the Mailchimp feature will see a button on the group page called 'Send to Mailchimp'.
Clicking that button sent the Sage CRM group to Mailchimp.
You will see the success of the sync displayed in the notifications.
If we look at Mailchimp, it has been added as a segment to the Audience that was used in the original configuration of the integration.
Changes in Sage CRM 2024 R2
Several changes have been made to the Mailchimp integration in Sage CRM 2024 R2; some merge tags were renamed and unlinked.
The renamed Mailchimp Merge Tags:
- LEA_EMAIL was renamed to PER_EMAIL
- LEA_FNAME was renamed to FNAME
- LEA_LNAME was renamed to LNAME
- COMP_TERRI was renamed to TERRITORY
The merge tags above were renamed to make their names consistent and to avoid potential conflicts with field names in Sage CRM.
The unlinked Mailchimp Merge Tags:
- COMP_EMAIL was unlinked from the corresponding Sage CRM field
- COMPNAME was unlinked from the corresponding Sage CRM field
- COMP_SECTO was unlinked from the corresponding Sage CRM field
- COMP_WEB was unlinked from the corresponding Sage CRM field
- LEA_SALUTA was unlinked from the corresponding Sage CRM field
Unlinking merge tags from the corresponding Sage CRM fields has reduced the number of merge tags used and allows users to add more custom Sage CRM fields to their Mailchimp audience.
These changes give Mailchimp users more flexibility in selecting which Sage CRM fields to use in their campaigns. The number of custom fields a user can add to their Mailchimp audience depends on their price plan.
Note: For users upgrading to Sage CRM 2024 R2 from a previous version with Mailchimp integration enabled, it is necessary to rename or remove merge tags in Mailchimp templates to continue synchronizing data from Sage CRM to Mailchimp.
Once the Mailchimp segment has been created, we can create the Mailchimp Campaign in Sage CRM and send it to Mailchimp. The following article will cover those steps.
