Do a "saved as version" of the report, with the setting turned on to include Inactive Items.  Then in crystal reports, for that version (saved as version) of the report add a filter to exclude Active Item Codes.  

Have you considered using Business Insights > Explorer > Item View to view the data? You can tweak the columns and then use filters much like Excel (inactive item is an option). I almost exclusively use those to look at my data. You can also export to Excel and process further.

I, too use Business Insights, but have not found a filter for 'Inactive Item'.  Can you tell me/point me to where that is?

I'm exploring that now.  I need to 'relearn' Crystal Reports each time I use it, as I do that so infrequently.  Is there a simple way to accomplish what you suggest?

If you just want a list of items, query CI_Item using Excel.

You can also add columns and filters to a custom ALE, then export to Excel from there.

There are a couple options for adding columns to the table; Column Selection or Column Settings. Also, the column settings shows you the table.fieldnames, which I have found helpful :)

When you have a table showing (which you can save for use later, and even put in your favorites), you can right click on a field and choose filter, and it will filter by that value (if you just want to filter quickly).

Once you get everything how you want it, you can even export the data in multiple formats, including a query that will open the data straight from the tables into excel (how cool is that!) :P
