Is it really necessary to upgrade from Peachtree Complete Accounting to Sage 50 Premium?

SOLVED

Hi,

I have been using Peachtree Complete Accounting 2012 version till today and suddenly when I tried to go to the function to "Pay/Enter Bills", the system just stopped responding and crashed.

May I know if it is really necessary to upgrade to Sage 50? As I look through the forums and help guides here, it seems like Sage 50 2018 version still has bugs.

I would like to know what happens if I do not upgrade my Peachtree Complete Accounting 2012?

Thank you.

The issue is not Sage Peachtree or Sage 50 or the new 2018 program., it is MICROSOFT Windows 10.

Because 2018 was designed for Windows 10, Sage is modifying the program when Window 10 updates break it.  This is not going to happen with Sage Peachtree 2012.  As Microsoft continues to update Windows 10 for security reasons, your outdated 2012 program will not be updated.

As long as you are running your Sage 50 on a computer that is connected to the internet, you may continue to have problems.   If you don't want to update, go to Windows 7 on a stand alone system with no internet connected and you should not have any issues.

If you do decide to update, please feel free to give us a call.  We will help you choose the program that is right for you.

Besides the one issue with reports and maintenance screens in Sage 50 2018 (which had an easy fix), the older Peachtree and Sage 50 programs work just fine on Windows 10.  We are still running Peachtree 2003 - Sage 50 2018 without any problems on Windows 10.  If you are a member of the Windows 10 Insiders program I would suggest that it is not active on any production computer.  There is an option to turn those updates off if that was the case.  As for Outlook emailing well, that is a different beast than Windows 10.  There are always problems with different versions of Outlook regardless of the software.

You can also try to change the Sage 50 Icon. Right click on the Sage 50 Icon properties, check the box to run the program as the Administrator, then under the compatibility tab check the box to run in Windows 8 compatibility mode. You might also want to change the User Account Control to "never notify" in the Windows control panel.

When Windows 10 auto updates it stops the Pervasive database engine.  Since Sage 50 needs the Pervasive to run, you may need to go to services.msc and stop or start the Pervasive PSQL.  BUT before you stop the Pervasive engine you MUST exit Sage.

While the above will not resolve a windows update issue you can turn off the automatic updates per Datasoft's post.

    Thanks all for the suggestions!

I will turn off Windows Update for now. All the replies really helped a lot and eased my worries about whether to install the new version or not.
