I don't recall running into that error before. All I can find in the knowledge base is "This is a Windows operating system issue not a Sage issue".

I've never tried running a version that old on Windows 10 so I don't know if it's possible. I think version 2016 was the first that Sage said was fully Windows 10 compatible. Although I know some have successfully used older versions than that on Win10, it just depends on which features they use.

You cannot lap link Sage 50 into a new computer. 

Also, Sage did not embrace windows 10 for their Sage 50 program until Sage 50 2017.  I would strongly suggest the client updates to the new Sage 50 2020.

It should be noted that I have verified that Peachtree Accounting 2009 can and will install on Windows 10. Unfortunately, I was able to install it on a separate computer and not the one I needed.
