What Sage 50 US program do you have?   How are you tracking the animals?

We use Sage 50 Premium Accounting. We also need help on good tracking system that can be adopted as well as accounting treatment to take care of all costs (feeding, medical etc) from birth to maturity.

So you would need some kind of tagging system.  Maybe leg bands for chickens and birds and tattoos for larger animals?   

I would suggest using the job costing method.  Each animal would be a "Job" every time you have a direct expense, you would put the job number on the transaction. 

Using job costing method, if we treat each animal as a job, how do we allocate common cost like cost of feed to each of the animal. 

When we purchase bag of feed only one purchase invoice is used.

On general expenses like food, treats, clean up materials etc, I would give them a general code.  At the end of the month divide it by the number of animals you have for the month.

Or once you determine an average cost per day and assign that to each animal for the number of days they are in your care.

Please how do we treat the current animals in the farm? Should we treat them as asset or inventory?  

Also how do we treat the new once born since we don't incur additional cost to have them.
