Issues after upgrading from Sage 50 2022 to 2023

SUGGESTED

We have Sage 50 installed on our server, we are planning to move to a new server running Sage 50 2024, but temporarily needed to upgrade our current to 2023 to get the 5 additional users.

We first started by backing up our 2022 database. Then from in Sage went to the check for update option to upgrade to 2023. After the install when we try opening the Sage 50 2023 client on the server, it immediately crashes with no other messages.

We first tried preforming the Actian Zen patch we found was referenced on here as a stability fix, and then we tried reinstalling Sage2023. No change.

All of our end users were able to install the update to their clients and are working, so it is not the worst problem the client on the server isn't working as we hope to be moving to our new server in a few week.

Problem #2, and our immediate concern, is now our Infor CRM service is not able to query the Sage database. We can connect fine but when it tries to do a query, the zenengnsvc32.exe crashes and needs to restart.

Any help with these problems would be welcome

Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling Actian Zen, and then also running the Sage 50 program as an Administrator (right click on Sage 50 icon and chose Run as Administrator)? Also, make sure that you didn't have User Account Control turned on during your installation, and make sure that your anti-virus program and firewalls (software and hardware) have exceptions in place for the Sage 50 Program directory, the Sage 50 data directory, and the Actian Zen directory.

Have tried both uninstalling Zen and running Sage as admin. I even updated Zen to the very latest release v15.21.006 at the recommendation of the people over at Actian.

I have checked firewall settings and also tried with it off.

I think my plan for this weekend is to, backup database, uninstall 2023 and Zen. Reinstall 2022 and see if things work again there. Then try upgrading to 2023 again.

Worst case for all this is in a couple weeks we move onto our new server where Sage 2024 and our CRM is working together properly. I'd rather not do too much messing around and then have something happen where Sage is completely unusable for the end users. Our CRM is working separately just not getting data from Sage, but when we cut the databases over to the new server they should hopefully sync back up.

Yesterday, I had 2 computers out of 20 that gave me these similar problems. I ended up uninstalling Sage 50, uninstalling Actian Zen, deleting residual directories from Program Files (x86) and ProgramData, stripped the Windows Registry, turned off User Account Control, rebooted, and then reinstalled. Everything worked after that, without problems. Please reach out to us if we can be of any help once you get your new server in place.
