named users license

SUGGESTED

Hello,

Sage 50 quantum accounting perpetual licenses may be acquired in packs of 1-10, 15, 20, 30, or 40. In this regard, my queries are as follows:

  1. Suppose we purchase 5 licenses initially. After a while, if we purchase one more license for the same organization, will it be counted as 6th license or will be treated a new first license. This is important because the differential cost of 5 users and 6 users license is less than the license cost of first user.
  2. Suppose we purchase 5 licenses. Then only the first 5 named users selected in the user maintenance screen will be considered licensed, named users. Suppose user number two resigns from the organization. Then we add user number 6, and then delete user number two. Will it work?
  3. Suppose we purchase 5 licenses. However, we define 8 users in the user maintenance screen. What will happen in that case. Will only the first five users will get access? Or all 8 users can get access but only 5 users can get the access simultaneously?

Regards,

Suppose we purchase 5 licenses initially. After a while, if we purchase one more license for the same organization, will it be counted as 6th license or will be treated a new first license. ANSWER:
You will need a license for each user/computer you will be using. You will need one license per computer and /or workstation. Focus on the number of users you will need in the first year. You can add on later, but it is more expensive. You "migrate" to new users and those licenses are NOT discounted. The cost per user is close to the cost of a one user license. Don't forget to count your server. It will need a license too.

Suppose we purchase 5 licenses. Then only the first 5 named users selected in the user maintenance screen will be considered licensed, named users. Suppose user number two resigns from the organization. Then we add user number 6, and then delete user number two. Will it work?
    ANSWER:
You can easily switch users in and out. There is no restriction here.

Suppose we purchase 5 licenses. However, we define 8 users in the user maintenance screen. What will happen in that case. Will only the first five users will get access? Or all 8 users can get access but only 5 users can get the access simultaneously?
    ANSWER:
If you have a 5 user program, you can always have more than 5 users listed. You can only have 5 people use the program simultaneously. You can only put a 5 user program on 5 computers including the server. If you install it on more than 5 computers, it will deactivate licenses arbitrarily.

Thank you so much Shirley. All this information is very helpful to us.

If we purchase 5 user licenses, then we can install it on five machines as follows:
    ServerMachine
    Laptop1
    Laptop2
    Laptop3
    Laptop4

Hence, data will be stored on ServerMachine. Four users will access the application through Laptop1, Laptop2, Laptop3, and Laptop4. This scenario restricts the users to use the application within a single physical office where laptops are connected to the ServerMachine on the local network.

Please update about another scenario. Suppose we purchase 5 user licenses. However, we put/install the program only on ServerMachine. In the user maintenance screen, we define 4 users. The application is not installed on Laptop1, Laptop2, Laptop3, and Laptop4. Instead the users are given access to the ServerMachine through Remote Desktop Connection. Now will the 4 users be able to access the application simultaneously by using Remote Desktop Connection on Laptop1, Laptop2, Laptop3, and Laptop4? The main benefit in this scenario is that the users are not restricted to use the application within a single physical office. Suppose a user carries Laptop2 in another branch office. He can still access the application through connecting to the ServerMachine using Remote Desktop Connection.

Remote Desktop Connection will allow connecting to the ServerMachine on the local network as well as over the internet.

You've got it! all of the above works!

You would actually have 5 named users. If you don't need the 5th name, give the administrator 2 names. It allows you to remote into other machines while still signed into your workstation. You could also use the extra name for your accountant.

Each user name comes with a built in audit trail that cannot be turned off. You can see the Sage 50 tasks each user performed daily.

    Thanks Shirley.

It means that if we have a 5 user program and we put/install Sage 50 only on ServerMachine, 5 users can remotely access Sage 50 from their workstations without putting/installing Sage 50 on the workstations. And all 5 users will login to Sage 50 application on ServerMachine through their own usernames. Please confirm.
