Adjusting Journal Entries

SUGGESTED

I created a job invoice last year, but the total amount invoiced is less than the actual cost. Unfortunately, since the year 2023 has already ended and the financial statements are being finalized, I cannot make any changes to that year. The CPA suggested creating an adjusting entry in January 2024, which will be reversed later. However, since this is a job invoice involving cost codes, I'm not sure how to make the necessary adjustments in Sage as it's not allowing me to do so. Any help will be greatly appreciated I am new at this

thank You

if the job invoice was originally entered in 4-2 screen, but was too much, then you can create a negative in that same screen. I typically find the wrong entry, copy it then change the data to reflect the correction so in the new year your adjustment goes back to job and cost code and cost type where the original data was posted. if you never overpaid the job cost invoice, then you should have a balance due and a credit that can be marked paid, and post as PAY ZERO check. or take a credit on future invoices as needed.

If it’s a large adjustment your CPA should be adjusting his numbers for 2023. If it’s nominal then Kathy is correct just post a credit memo in 4-2 in 2024.  But how does an entry  have less cost than the invoice?
