Washington State Long Term Care Tax 2022

Has Sage started preparing for this new Washington State tax?

Starting January 1, 2022, ESD will assess each Washington employee a 0.58% premium assessment based on their wages. The employer must collect this premium assessment through a payroll deduction and remit the proceeds to ESD. Will the year end tax update include this tax, similar to WAPFL?

Please let us know ASAP as we will need time to formulate the workaround if not provided by SAGE.

Thanks!

Justin

  • Hi Justin, The tax rate associated with this tax will be included in a 2022 PR Tax update. See KB 25159 for further information regarding when it has been released. The tax will need to be added manually to the Washington tax group in Payroll. I anticipate we will have additional KBs associated with the setup once we get closer to when it is effective.

This tax is now "on hold" until 2023 - do we just remove the % in the tax rate setup, to stop it from withholding?  Or remove it from the tax group setup it is in, then it will not withhold?

If you have withheld the tax from employees you will need to refund the amounts previously withheld.  To stop it from calculating remove the tax from the Washington tax group. It may be necessary to recalculate subject to in order to recalculate the amounts subject to the tax.  KB aritcle 25159 will be updated shortly with further information
