Report speed - do reports run on the server or locally?

I am working on one Crystal and one RD report for Sage CRE. These are Job Cost reports using JC Transactions.

The reports are very very slow to return information. The computer I am using is an older Windows XP model.

Does the speed of the user machine affect report return time, or is this a server issue?

There are option in the crystal report to compile the report data on the server - but seeing that both are very slow it could be the size of the data and how the reports were written. Meaning are there conditions eliminating what you don't need. There is also a method of applying SL methods to Crystal report that will really speed them up.

Version is 13.1

I will try out the Crystal Reports - compile report data on server.

What sort of SQL methods can be applied? My experience is with writing stored procedures on SQL Server for use by Crystal, but I think that is not possible with the Sage CRE Pervasive database.
