No, deleting or inactivating assets will not affect performance.

Assuming you are on the Premier product: What you are describing sounds more like a wide area network connection for the slow performance and the random disconnects is typical behavior if the database are on a SQL cluster neither of which is a supported configuration.

If this is the Network product, the wide area network connection could account for both.
