Timeslips to Outlook

Hello, I'm trying to connect (link?) timeslips to outlook for the first time.

I see in TS the Outlook settings option for outlook to do this.  It asks for a path to the contacts for Outlook and when I select the "button" to browse to the Contact file location, it opens up a window in Outlook.

Do I link it to the "Contacts" there in  the outlook dropdown tree under the user mailbox?   Also we have TWO email accounts on this Outlook. One user account has a bunch of contacts, the other account is empty with no contacts, I believe

Not sure which one to use, please advise?

I think the first question is WHY are you trying to link to Outlook? What do you want/expect that link to do for you?

Hello, and thank you for your response

Trying to send out invoices from time slips using Outlook client.  I know it can be done and have seen it first hand.  Just trying to understand the following

It asks for a path to the contacts for Outlook and when I select the "button" to browse to the Contact file location, it opens up a new window in Outlook.

Do I link it to the "Contacts" there in the outlook dropdown tree under the specific user's mailbox?   Also we have TWO email accounts on this Outlook. One user account has a bunch of contacts, which is not the default user account and  the other account is empty with no contacts, I believe

If all you are trying to do is send the bill via email, it is not necessary to pursue the Outlook link. That link has to do with synchronizing Contacts to Client records, and sending time entries from Outlook to Timeslips. I have yet to see a user who does that.

All you need to do to send bills via email is make sure EACH client record that you want to send their bill via email has a) an email address on the first page of the client view, and b) under Bills, Invoices, Email Options you have CHECKED the box to Send Bills via Email.

There is a whole Help File article on Sending Bills by Email that also gets into what you need to be able to do this (basically just a MAPI-compliant email client such as Outlook), and assigning Templates and whatnot. But the above two elements in place will get you started.

I like to use the reprint bill via email function to do testing on this.

I did have a client with an issue in their Outlook profile/email setup this week that was preventing the sending, but once we got that straightened out the feature seemed to be working properly.

I have several programs that can use Outlook to share client information (in theory). Timeslips is not sharing with Outlook 2016 which means I have to input  the client data all over again and any change has to be done twice.

I can not get Timeslips 2018 and Outlook 2016 to sync. Outlook 2016 is 32 bit. Did the sync routine in Timeslips and assigned the contacts folder. One computer setup. Why does Timeslips not want to sync with Outlook 2016?

Do you have more than one email account setup in Outlook? That can cause issues with data.

I have two email accounts. What would be the issues with data?

It's not an issue with data per se, but Timeslips has a problem with sending out emails when there are two email accounts. I generally suggest setting up a separate profile with just one account and using that profile when you are going to email invoices.

I'm not using Timeslips to email. The issue is that Timeslips and Outlook 2016 do not transfer client information back and forth.  If I add a client or change client information in one program, it does not add or change in the other.

Is it possible to use the Outlook Link for purposes of allowing attorneys to enter their time contemporaneously when sending an email?  I.e.  when I send an e-mail would I receive a prompt to enter my time for that email?

If yes, the Outlook Link does not show up on my set-up list.  Thank you for your help with this!

I think it is theoretically possible, but I've never had a client do so.

Any sort of link with Outlook is usually highly dependent on which version of Outlook, and the security settings in Outlook and your anti-virus program. Since almost every program in the world wants to link with Outlook, including things like viruses, a lot of times I see my linked options from several of my programs (not just Timeslips) getting shut down by Outlook after some Microsoft update, so maintaining those can be a pain.
