Questions about upgrading from X3v7 to X3v12

Fellow X3ers

My company is considering upgrading from X3v7 to X3v12 and I'm looking for resources that show what kind of changes have been made between the two versions so I can get an idea of how traumatic the upgrade might be. Does anyone have any resources they can share around changes to the database structure, functional changes or similar between v7 and v12? Is it possible to set up a trial installation of v12 to run a comparison similar to Microsoft Server OS trials? If so, where can I get the install bits?

Also, I am interested in exploring cloud based options for X3. Is there reference information available that tells me the advantages and disadvantages to moving the Sage cloud option?

Thanks for your help.

  • Paul,

We have done several of these upgrades. It is not as invasive as what you might have experienced doing prior upgrades. If you are current on your Sage X3 Business Care you should have access to the latest Sage X3 versions so you can install it in another environment to look around, test upgrade, etc. That would also give you access to the latest documentation, show the functional changes as well as system specs.

One thing to remember if you are looking at the Sage X3 SaaS option is that solution will not allow 3rd party add-ons or customizations at this point. There are many Sage X3 customers who have their implementation Hosted. For example at Expedient, AWS, Azure, etc. This gives you Cloud to eliminate your internal infrastructure needs but allows for 3rd party solutions and customizations.

    Happy to discuss further.
