Setting up Lumber in Product

SUGGESTED

Does anyone keep a lumber inventory (2x4, 2x6, etc.)  in X3 where you purchase and sell by LF and EA but pricing is per MBF?  I'd like to know how to set up UOM and UOM conversions.

Is there any documentation for this or any best practices you would recommend?

Thank you for your help!

Hi , this is a complex question.
I can imagine to use a single product managed in linear feet as stock unit. Of course having 10 time 1 linear feet piece is not the same as having 1 piece of 10 linear feets. So to make the distinction in the inventory, you might use the packing unit with changeable coefficient. Maybe, the packing unit would be a piece and the coefficient will tell you how many Linear feets the piece is. That can be enough, when selling to ensure you are selling the right size.

If this is not convenient, you can decide to have different product codes depending on the size: standard size would be different standard product codes and maybe for the non standard size you can have a single product following the first solution suggested.

In any case, if the wood thickness is different, it should be different product codes.

    I hope this helps!
