have you tried using a local Admin account and launching the console "As Administrator"? then try and make the change?

you could also try to reinstall the console with a Local Administrator account and see if you get better results.

The only other thing I could suggest is to locate the solution.xml file for the console and manually make the change.

there is a list of XMLs that you can take a peek at. I don't know if your old version will be exact, but it wouldn't hurt to look. here is some example locations:

You could try changing the service settings directly in the Windows services to test.

Make sure that user has "Log on as a service permissions" in Local Group Policy.

should set the user that the X3 service (runtime) runs as

You could also try setting it to "localsystem".

which will set the service to run as a local system account
