    Hi

Global allocation is a control that ensures the quantity in your stock will be available for your need. It can be from any locations, lots, packing units, serial numbers or sub-status of stock authorized by the global allocation rules (set on the product category).

Detailed allocation is a control that select a specific stock line(s) which is a STOCK table record(s) perfectly identified by its stock characteristics: sub-status of stock, location, lot ner, packing unit, serial number, etc. With this control, you are sure to have the allocated stock line(s) available when you need it (them).

To sum-up with the global allocation you don't know the stock characteristics that will be available but you have greater flexibilty regarding the usage of your stock.

Quite often the question can ask this way: who is selecting the stock for a need? If this it the stock handler when preparing the stock, then you need to use global allocation and let the stock handle select the stock line when entering the stock transaction. If you expect the system to select the stock to pick (to enforce a FEFO rule or select a specific batch for instance), then you need to use detailed allocation.

An allocation (globale or detailed), can be either triggered manually (clicking a button and selecting the stock line in case of a manual detailed allocation) or triggered automatically upon the SO firm or WO firm creation or upon using mass allocation function as a recurring batch (my favorite option).

    Hello  ,

    A queestion reading yout post.

I think, than with FEFO allocation, is is good have Global allocation, because you can create orders (global allocation), but the system always do a Detailed allocation in the Delivery Validation (allocate the FE esisting lot). ¿is it ok?

    Thanks!

    Hi

I agree with you, if you want to use FEFO in a sales flow it is interesting to use global allocation on the sales order so the detailed allocation would be done at the very last minutes based on FEFO (don't forget to set the automatic determination on the delivery transaction!). This would be handy to avoid a situation where the detailed allocation is done at the sales order level few hours / days before the actual shipment prep, the risk being to have a newly received batch (entered into stock AFTER the creation of the detailled allocation) which is first in the FEFO order and therefore would be dismissed.

I hope I am being clear in this post.
