Maximum stock limit in Sage X3

SOLVED

Hello, can anyone tell me how can I setup the maximum stock quantity for a product site. I tried adding it in product site but don't know how it works, the system still allows me to receive more stock. I need such a setup that once the maximum quantity has reached maybe a waning should be shown. I also want to know the use of safety stock, EOQ, and technical lot options within product site.

    Hi,

The Maximum stock field found in the product category or product site is for Material requirement planning. A Maximum stock can be entered if periodic replenishment is set up. In Sage X3, no parameter on the maximum QTY can be ordered.

The safety stock, EOQ, and technical lots are all used for MRP suggestions. I suggest checking the Sage University (sageu.com) manufacturing training for additional information regarding the use of these fields or reach out to your authorized partner for further assistance.

Since no one answered, i'll take a swing. I have not tested this.
I think you would have to use Locations/Bins/Racks/Whatever. Then you could set limits on the location/bin. I think if you do that it will warn you when you fill the bin. The location would be set to capacity managed.

Capacity managed: Ensure that the quantity does not exceed the maximum quantity,
indicated in the Units of Measurement section. Location will change to status of Occupied
when there is a stock receipt above this even when it is not totally filled. Once ‘Occupied’
can no longer be used for other receipts. After all stock is issued it will have a status of
‘Free’. When the status is ‘Occupied’ you will receive a message if you try to place a product
    here.

I think the maximum quantity by product would go here.  So maybe you could list ALL the products in one location?

I am going to suggest as answer. Why not.

    Hi

Setting control on the location or location type will not prevent receiving more stock than the maximum quantity. It will only work for the location at hands, so each location can be filled with the maximum quantity. I think the request is to have a control on the total quantity managed on the stock site.

Capacity managed: Ensure that the quantity does not exceed the maximum quantity,

True but once ticked the maximum quantity is set here:

Meaning the maximum quantity is set per unit (example KG) and all products can be received until their total combined quantity (or weight if managed in KG) reached the max. Then the location is full and unavailable for more entries on this location.

Note: for location managed with capacity managed, once a product is stored in this location only products sharing the same stock unit can be entered on the same location.

I think the maximum quantity by product would go here.  So maybe you could list ALL the products in one location?

Note quite: the assignment is used for 'Dedicated' and 'Replenish' option.

    • If using 'Dedicated' only product(s) assigned can be stored in this location.
    • If using 'Replenish', the the system can do location suggestion (when function FUNCALREO run) to replenish up to the maximum quantity (Reordering point logic) the location from another location(s).

    Hi

In Sage X3 the logic is not to block the creation of the entry transaction upon the receipt but to avoid reordering more than the maximum stock (compared to the projected available stock and not the total current stock).

Statistical reordering such as periodic replenishment is the easiest way to deal with this request, here is the principle:

and how to set a product-site  with such reordering mode

Or you can use the MRP combined with maximum stock analysis, this will create some alerts when the projected stock will be over the maximum.

    • From the on-line help: "Analysis of the product's maximum stock level is carried out at the end of each period. When the maximum stock level is exceeded, a warning message is generated and displayed in the MRP results inquiry. At the end of the period a VRS ("overstock" warning) is generated for the excess stock quantity. This VRS "warning" is only for information purposes and cannot be converted to a transaction."

I think this is more relevant than blocking / warning the end-user upon the stock receipt, once the truck is in front of our door (supplier receipt or customer return), it is too late to deny the truck to unload. This is why it is better to perform this control when reordering the stock.
