License Plate Numbers for Pallets

I'm curious if or how other companies generate license plate numbers (LPN) for pallets.  Although the STOJOU table has a PALNUM field, I'm not seeing how I can get X3 to generate a unique pallet ID barcode and store that ID.  We'd like to be able to know what lot AND specific pallet was shipped to a customer.  We'd also like to to build pallets containing different items and lots and issue and LPN for that built pallet.

We're on X3 PU9.0.3 and currently use ADCs for production tracking (with lot) and shipment preparation.

    Our plan is to use a combination of SOAP Web Services and ADCs (with Datalinx software) for production tracking. We have multiple sites and each does things differently. This will write the PALNUM to X3. For stock issues to sales pick tickets, we're planning to use Datalinx to read the LPN and perform a detailed allocation. For our PALNUM structure, we decided to use a combination of the Work Order number, pallet sequence number, and number of eaches on a pallet. We'll be going live in the next 6 weeks if you want to check back in with me. My plan is also to be on 9.0.5 before going live.
