To my knowledge debugging in eclipse, this statement "dbgaff" would not help you much. There is a series of steps which need to be executed to use eclipse.

1.  Navigate to Source Menu in Eclipse --> Open Safe X3 Source File

2.  Select Source File viz., SPESOH

3.  Toggle Break point

4. Open function which need to debug Viz., GESSOH in X3

5. Under Eclipse navigate to Project menu --> select Attach to process 

6. You should be able to see list of functions running in X3, then attach it to the function that is appropriate

7. And then Debug triggers in Eclipse.

Talked with my coworker and he thinks that he was using breakpoints in conjunction with his dbgaff statements.  

I know that DBGAFF worked for a long time, but then it stopped...  maybe it was deprecated at V9P4, ill have to check the release notes.

So.. i will start using the breakpoints from now on, and see how that works out.  They have been hit or miss for our team, so... here's hoping they improve.

That said, DBGAFF is NOT listed as being deprecated in the V11 online help, and the command is still recognized in the Eclipse editor, so if developers are not supposed to use it anymore, then it should be removed from service.

I can confirm that DBGAFF is still working in V12 and has not been deprecated. What I found to be the issue in some cases is the debugging port either configurable from EM [ User >> Module: SUP >> Group: DEV >>Parameter: AECLIPRT] or from Eclipse itself. Set the debugging port to 8124 and make sure to restart Eclipse and re-connect to EM. Also be sure to set parameters: AECLIPSE and AECLIDBG to yes

Open your X3 project from Eclipse and make sure you tell X3 where to send the debugging information. By default, the port is 10000.

We debug all the time and it would be really hard to do X3 coding without the debugging functionality. We only use DBGAFF, not using breakpoints for now.

Basically it has much to do with correct ip adresses setup in DEV group under User parameters.
It hs to be the one visible to X3 - so the one you comnect from, but when using VPN it can vary, so I recommenf checking if you entered the correct one.
