Character input - not a keyboard issue

SUGGESTED

We have been having this issue for YEARS.  We have called multiple times, it is happening on multiple computers, and is not the keyboard.   We have even had a video conference with Sage.

We are entering invoices and all of the sudden, our letters and numbers are symbols, spaces, dashes, tab is backwards, and caps locks is disengaged/engaged and the numbers only type the symbols above.

We have called numerous times, nothing.  Sage logged in remote and witnessed it, still nothing.  Sent videos, nothing.  We have tried the "solution" listed here, nothing.  I found a similar thread, it is marked as solved, but it is not.

This is not an isolated issue.  I work on four separate Sage accounts and it happens at all of them.

    SUGGESTED

    Hi  ,

Thank you for bringing this persistent issue to our attention. I've escalated your comments onto the Sage 50 Canada support team for further investigation.

Although we do not have specific resources in the Sage Knowledgebase addressing this exact character input problem, it's possible that the issue may relate to software settings, conflicts with other installed programs, or regional settings that affect character encoding. While we work on getting you the support needed, here are a few suggestions that might help isolate or temporarily mitigate the issue:

    1. Check Regional Settings: Ensure that your computer's regional settings match the format expected by Sage 50 Canada. Sometimes, discrepancies here can cause unusual behavior in software applications.
    2. Software Conflicts: Temporarily disable or close other programs running in the background to see if there's an improvement. This can help identify if another application is interfering with Sage 50's normal operations.
    3. User Permissions: Verify that all users experiencing this issue have the correct Windows OS permissions for Sage 50. Incorrect permissions can sometimes lead to unexpected software behavior.
    4. Update and Patch: Make sure that your Sage 50 Canada software is up to date with the latest patches and updates. Occasionally, such issues are resolved in software updates.

Hope that one of these steps offers a temporary workaround until our support team can provide a more permanent solution. Rest assured, we are committed to resolving this issue and will follow up with additional information as soon as it's available.

    Warm Regards,

    Erzsi

What Windows version are your computers> Windows 10, Windows 11 or perhaps older versions?? How old are the computers?

  • Windows 10 pro - I have just confirmed with three of them.  Out of the 4 that I work with, 2 are within 3 years purchased, 1 is older, the laptop is new within months.  2 are working on their own sage program.  2 are shared.

  • What version of Sage? Sage 50 Pro, Premium, Quantum? Is it the latest 2024.2? Are there any apps connected to Sage such as Auto Entry, MiSys, etc?  Are you using a VPN? Are any of the keyboards wireless? Is there a Bluetooth numeric keypad attached to any of them? Are the data files on the local computer, on a server...if on a server is the server a supported version? Do you work directly on the computer or do you remote in using a program or VPN? Does it happen both single user and multiuser?

  • Sage 50 Accountant (multiuser)

    -no apps

-Keyboards, one wireless, the rest aren't

    -data on a server

-It happens in single and multiuser (multiuser is the one we use more frequently)

the Sage 50 pro (two of them)

    -no apps

    -wired keyboards

    -local data

    -no bluetooth numeric pinpads

    -single user only

In all cases, we work directly on the computer.

  • You missed one of the questions. Is it the latest 2024.2? or an older version? If it is not 2024.2 what version is/are they?

  • Sorry - all are the latest version, with no updates available

  • You have a very tiny needle in a huge haystack. I have run out of scenarios I have run across which may create your problem.

    Good luck!

  • The only thing that comes to my mind is that Sticky Keys is turned on.  However, for it to happen on multiple computers is weird.  I have never tested Sticky Keys and I am not sure it would turn letters to symbols, unless the keyboard has been turned into another language.  I used to have my keyboard turn into French all the time until I found out something like Shift Alt something switched languages.  Sticky Keys may do this.  I uninstalled the other keyboards I think.  Sometimes you can see the keyboard language tool in the systray near the clock on the task bar.  I'm not sure if this helps but it is all I have.
